Restorative Bodywork

Picture
“Movement becomes habit, which becomes posture, which becomes structure.”
- Tom Meyers

What is Structural Release & Restoration?
Restorative Bodywork is a unique approach to bodywork that simply cannot be faked. It is the end result of advanced experience and exposure to the world of soft tissue medicine, extensive studies and hands-on in therapeutic techniques, a broad and discerning mind, and a deep devotion to the craft of healing.

Some people think that therapeutic styles of bodywork are not relaxing like spa styles, but I firmly disagree: What could be more relaxing than freedom from pain and stress?  Our stress is connected to our pain, and our pain is connected to our body; therefore our pain and stress are connected to our habits and history. These imbalances can be addressed in a meaningful and lasting way... Now we're talking Structural Release & Restoration! It takes a skilled practitioner to read and understand the body, and a skilled hand to facilitate real healing.

Once you have felt Structural Release and Restoration style, you will understand the difference.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu, also known as acupressure, is an ancient practice of bodywork performed on a cotton batted floor mat. It is characterized by deep compression into muscles, Tuina, working along energy Meridians, joint and soft tissue mobilization via stretching and range of motion, deep tissue release in areas of imbalance, and energy balancing.

The philosophical approach to health and wellness in Chinese Medicine suggests a harmonious relationship with Nature. Indeed, we as humans are not superior to Nature or immune to Natural Laws, and we are susceptible to the same inner imbalances that can be symbolically or literally found in the natural world. Thus arise Elemental Theories which can help us understand our ever-flowing state of wellness and how to influence our health through natural principles.

In bodywork, a practitioner would learn to understand and respect these laws, and find clues and cues to what approaches and techniques might best be used in any given session. Shiatsu sessions change seasonally depending on the needs of the client's body, mind, and spirit throughout the seasons of the year.

Longer sessions of two or more hours allow the recipients' body and mind to relax further and integrate the work more in a single session. Some things should not be rushed! Clients should bring loose fitting comfortable clothing (such as sweats or leggings) to wear during treatment.
