Stephanie Walsh: On Stress, Immunity, and Nutrition
10 Sept, 2020
"There is no denying 2020 has been a stressful year, perhaps even your most stressful year. It should probably be coined the Year of the Adrenals! Every time your body responds to stress - whether an unbearable loss or simply fear of change and the unknown - your adrenal glands kick into high gear and stay active for quite some time. One vitamin that is critical for optimum function of the adrenal glands is Vitamin C. In fact your adrenals use more vitamin C than any other organ in your body. If you have chronically high levels of stress your body can become depleted of vitamin C. This becomes a problem when your immune system requires vitamin C as well. High stress not only taxes your adrenal glands, it compromises your immune system. As we transition into the cold and flu season, especially after a stressful summer, Vitamin C becomes vitally important. Thankfully, there are easy ways to get your C - eat a rainbow of veggies and fruits, reduce sugar (it depletes your body of C) and potentially think about supplementation.
How do you start supporting your adrenal glands and improving your vitamin C intake long term? Check out my blog The Daily Fight (or Flight) below or feel free to contact me for a consultation."
